About Dan

Hi, I'm Dan

Kitesurfing isn't just my sport — it's a way of life. I've spent over 14 years on the water, and over 500 students have gone through my lessons.

I teach calmly and like a human being — but methodically, aiming for fast, lasting progress. The goal isn't just to get you standing on a board, it's to have you riding both directions confidently.

Lessons take place in Hurghada, Egypt, at the PlayKite kite school — one of the best spots to learn: steady wind, warm shallow water.

Dan

Safety first

Gear, wind theory and emergency drills covered before we hit the water.

Personal approach

One-on-one lessons. The program adapts to you, not the other way around.

Real progress

Clear stages: from your first kite launch in the water to independent sessions.

PlayKite

Where I teach

PlayKite kite school, Hurghada

I work out of the PlayKite kite school — one of the best spots in Hurghada to learn: steady trade winds nearly year-round, warm shallow water, a long lagoon for safe practice.

  • Steady trade winds nearly year-round
  • Warm shallow water — ideal for learning from scratch
  • Full school infrastructure: gear, on-water safety, rental

Training

How the lessons work

A step-by-step program — each stage builds on the previous one.

  1. 01

    Theory & gear

Kite and harness setup, wind theory, safety rules. We go straight into the water — learning in real conditions.

  2. 02

    Body drag

First time in the water without the board — feeling the kite's pull and getting back to the board.

  3. 03

    First water start

Getting up on the board, first meters of glide, controlling speed and direction.

  4. 04

    Confident riding

Riding upwind, turns, independent sessions without an instructor.

Who these lessons are for

The program adapts to your level — come in from any starting point.

Beginner

Never touched a kite. We start from zero — theory, wind, safety, and your first launch straight in the water.

Some experience

Tried it before, but unsure. We'll lock in the basics and get you to steady independent riding.

Already riding

You ride confidently and want more — we'll work on technique, turns and your first tricks.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be fit?+

No special fitness needed. Kitesurfing is about technique and working with the wind, not strength. What matters is the desire.

What should I bring?+

Gear is provided. Bring swimwear, sunscreen, water shoes (ideally with a firm sole, like diving boots) and a good mood.

How many lessons until I can ride?+

The course is structured by outcome, not hours — we work until you ride confidently both ways. For most students that's 8–10 hours on the water.

What do I get when I finish the course?+

A kite school diploma that lets you rent gear at kite stations worldwide.

What if there's no wind?+

The lesson is rescheduled to a day with suitable conditions. Safety and quality matter more than the calendar.

Where do the lessons take place?+

Hurghada, Egypt — at the PlayKite kite school. Steady trade winds, warm shallow water, ideal conditions for learning. We'll confirm the exact meeting point and time when you book.
